Steve Smith's delight at leading Australia to a 2-0 sweep of New Zealand was dampened by news he's been charged with dissent over the incident involving fast bowler John Hazlewood and Kane Williamson yesterday.

Hazlewood was fined 15% of his match fee for dissent after Williamson was judged not out to an lbw appeal, and subsequent referral.

Smith was worked up over the decision at the time and he too finds himself before match referee Chris Broad.

"I'll cop that," Smith said after the test ended at Hagley Oval today. "I need to be better than that."

That said, Smith thought he was within his rights to approach umpire Ranmore Martinesz to query the decision.
