England began its campaign at the under-19 World Cup with a commanding win over Namibia in Queenstown yesterday.

The England side, which has former England player Jonathan Trott, who also played one season for Otago in 2005-06, as its batting coach, never needed to get out of second gear at John Davies Oval.

Namibia won the toss and decided to bat but lost wickets at regular intervals and was 196 for nine wickets at the end of 50 overs.

England did not wait around in reply, reaching the target in the first ball of the 25th over, winning by eight wickets.

Will Jacks scored an undefeated 73, scoring at more than a run a ball, while captain Harry Brook scored an unbeaten 59. They had an unbeaten 130-run partnership.

England will take on Bangladesh in Queenstown on Thursday.
