Osborne stars in Metro win

Southland's club cricketers enjoyed perfect weather conditions for round six of the one-day premier league on Saturday.

Metropolitan beat Southland Boys’ High by three wickets on ground two at Queens Park.

Southland Boys’ scored 162 before being bowled out in the 50th over. Opening batter Reid Murray held the school’s innings together with 75.

Jason Osborne was Metro’s player of the day. He took four wickets for 21 runs and then, in Metro’s turn at bat with his side five down for 81 when Osborne came to the crease, he was unbeaten on 40 when victory was reached in the 41st over.

On the main oval, Old Boys beat Marist by 69 runs.

Old Boys scored 223 and Marist was bowled out for 154 in the 37th over.

The Waikoikoi and Appleby game at Waikoikoi was abandoned.

In round six of the division one competition, Te Anau had a big win at home over Appleby’s B team. Te Anau racked up 265 for five from its 40 overs thanks largely to an unbeaten century from Jono Hodson and 67 from captain Alex Webster. Appleby was rolled for 122 in the 27th over.
