Three Otago players were among the contracted White Ferns players announced yesterday.

Suzie Bates, Katey Martin and Leigh Kasperek all retain their contracts from last year.

However, fellow Otago player Morna Nielson — who had a contract last year — missed out on the group of 15.

Both Bates and Martin were experienced at international level, while coach Haidee Tiffen made mention of Kasperek as being a youngster who impressed at the most recent World Cup.

She said those youngsters would be important in the coming years.

"We’ve got a group of experienced players currently leading the way for the White Ferns, but we know they won’t be around forever.

"What the likes of Hannah [Rowe], Leigh [Kasperek] and Amelia [Kerr] showed in the UK is that there are players coming through who are ready to take up the mantle."

Kerr, at 16 years old, was the youngest player on the list, securing her first contract with the national side.

A year 12 pupil at Tawa College in Wellington, she debuted for the team last year and played every game at the World Cup.

The only  newcomer to the group was 24-year-old Auckland player Maddy Green.

Meanwhile, Anna Peterson has worked her way back on to the contract list. Liz Perry and Sam Curtis have missed out.

The White Ferns are to play Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates next month and a squad will be announced soon.
