India extend lead, tear through NZ order

India extended their lead to 108 at tea on the day three of the first test against New Zealand at Kanpur.

Murali Vijay and Lokesh Rahul put on 52, before Rahul edged one to Ross Taylor at slip, trying to play a cut to an Ish Sodhi delivery, to be dismissed for 38.

Earlier India's spinners claimed nine wickets between them to bowl New Zealand out for 262.

Ravi Jadeja took five for 73, while Ravi Ashwin claimed four for 93, as New Zealand offered little resistance after making it to 152 for one at stumps last night.

Three quick wickets early saw Tom Latham, Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson back in the pavilion, falling to 170 for four. Williamson's 75 would be New Zealand's top score, while Latham (58) was the only other Black Cap to surpass 50.

Luke Ronchi and Mitchell Santner were able to settle things down for a period, before Ronchi went lbw for 38 before lunch.

After lunch the resistance folded. Santner was caught off Ashwin for 32, as the final five wickets fell in the space of seven runs.

India claimed six of its wickets via lbw, as New Zealand's incompetencies against spin were exposed.

The hosts take a 56-run lead into the second innings.
