Sri Lanka end first innings with small lead

The first test is between New Zealand and Sri Lanka was in the balance at lunch on day three.

New Zealand have gone to the break on 18-1 in their second innings, having wiped off the deficit after dismissing the hosts for 267.

The Black Caps made 249 in their first dig, so at the break the scores were level and New Zealand have nine wickets with which to set a target. Jeet Raval is the man out, for 4.   

After Sri Lanka resumed the day on 227-7, Will Somerville (two) and Trent Boult took the final three wickets to keep their team in the game.

Niroshan Dickwella top-scored for Sri Lanka with 61.
