Two batsmen make centuries in N Otago

Albion registered an eight-wicket win over Valley in North Otago cricket on Saturday.

Batting first, Valley made 211 for eight in its 50 overs. Jake Matthews top-scored with 62 and Scott Kingan added 29.

Ricky Whyte and Stu Slack took three wickets each.

Allrounder Whyte took to the Valley attack with a hard hit 84 to cruise Albion to 212 runs at a cost of only two wickets. Jonty Naylor made 51 not out.

A century from the bat of allrounder Scott Kitto, who scored 125, supported by 49 from Brad Fleming saw Union through to 318 for five after its 50 overs.

Blake James (35) and Harap Singh (32) added solidity.

Oamaru battled through to 105 before the final wicket fell.

Glenavy set St Kevin’s First XI the task of passing 248. Matt Tagney (82) and Ron Moffat (62) were the best of the batsmen. Andrew Docherty, with four for 44, and Jack Cameron, with three for 51, did the damage for the College side.

St Kevin’s managed to get over the line with one wicket left. Liam Direen scored an unbeaten 113 and led the charge. He shared a 24-run partnership with Docherty for the last wicket.
