A blast from the past saw racing return to the Logan Park circuit yesterday.
The 2.3km block presented challenges in the form of speed bumps, kerb protrusions and traffic and riders needed to keep their wits about them.
The large A and B grade field set off together but soon sorted themselves out, with A grade enjoying an animated race.
Triathlete Alex Dodds played a bit of catch-me-if-you-can, but it was Stu Crooks who was relentless in his attacks. This paid off when he split the bunch, taking powerhouses Phil Turnwald, Joe Chapman, Kees Duyvestyn and Brad Evans.
There was some uncertainty about the last lap and, in the confusion, Evans took advantage of some traffic congestion to ride out the eventual winner of the 10-lap race. Duyvestyn was second and Chris Harvey third.
B grade riders Tess Molloy, Graham Harris and Jon Keyzer settled into a bunch early on and kept the rest of B grade at bay, with Molloy the eventual winner.
In C grade, Jan Brosnahan attacked with two laps to go and was joined by Gavin Hartley. When Bryony Telford eventually bridged, it was clear they would stay away from the chasers and
Hartley who won the sprint from Telford.
After an absence of 25 years, Calvin Partel slotted nicely into C grade.
The junior race, a four-lap event, was won by Thirza Smith, with Mila Rollo and Flynn Cooper-Forster next.
By Jan Brosnahan.
