Scrambling (above) for the ball during a Masters Games match is Plainsmen Pearlers player Dave Chambers, while Green Island’s Jono Jamieson looks on from ground level at Logan Park in Dunedin yesterday. Football wrapped up yesterday as finals games were played.

With nearly 900 footballers participating, there was plenty of screaming for offside, while some minds were thinking more quickly than bodies could respond.

On the fly... Away from the council desk, Dunedin city councillor Jim O’Malley (right) tries to stop the ball. O’Malley was playing for the Plainsmen Pearlers.

O’Malley still plays regularly for a Mosgiel side in the over-45 age grade in Dunedin. The centre back said he really enjoyed the masters concept and had had a lot of fun over the past few days.

Round-ball tragics are not completely finished as futsal is set to be played at the Edgar Centre this weekend.
