Dunedin Technical dominated University at Bayfield Park in a comprehensive 6-1 victory on Saturday.

A first half hat-trick by Tim McLennan set the tone and Tech led 3-0 at the break. The Bayfield surface started to break up in the second half and made for tricky conditions. Varsity replied early in the second half to reduce the deficit, but Technical stamped its dominance with further goals to George McCall, McLennan and Kail Bouma-Tucker, who completed the scoring just before fulltime.

Caversham fell foul of the commentator’s curse, after been rightly lauded for winning 30 consecutive games, and went down 1-0 to Green Island.

The young Green Island side was without coach Richard Kerr-Bell and Kevin Scoullar stepped into the breach.

He made sure Caversham’s long dominance of the local scene came to an end when Hamish McCallion scored the only goal of the game on the 83rd minute. A  dominant first half display paved the way for Roslyn’s 3-0 win over Northern at a soggy Forrester Park.

Reid Hullemann finished off a flowing attack on 30 minutes and Tennessee Kinghorn doubled the lead shortly afterwards.

To Northern’s credit, it was more threatening in the second half, but once Kinghorn scored again, with a wonderful masterclass late on, Northern’s chance was gone.

The game between Queenstown and Mosgiel was unusual in that both  teams shared an even amount  of possession and territory.

However Queenstown was ruthless on attack and clinical with its finishing, claiming a 5-0 win. An open first 20 minutes changed when a diagonal ball out to Matt Cordelle was beautifully cushioned to Jan Kumar, who rolled the ball to Carlos Hermann on the edge of the box.

He rifled it into the top corner, giving goal keeper Zane Green no chance.

Mosgiel dominated the remainder of the half, but did not threaten to equalise.

Right on halftime, a neat run behind the Mosgiel defence by Kumar put him one-on-one with the keeper and he scored to make it 2-0 at half time.

Mosgiel’s midfield of  Morgan Day and Isaac Snell were working tirelessy, but were not able to penetrate and when Kumar scored the third goal, with a clinical chip, the contest was over. On 60 minutes Hermann unleashed a serving shot and Mosgiel old boy Callum Flaws added the fifth with a 25m  pile-driver.
