After a derby loss on opening day, Mosgiel bounced back to record a 3-1 win over Northern at Memorial Park.

Mosgiel welcomed back Regan Coldicott after an injury hindered his season last year and he showed his class. After a scrappy start, the game burst into life midway through the opening half with two goals in a minute.

Charlie Gruppelaar scored for Mosgiel in the 22nd minute but Liam Brosnahan equalised almost straight away.

Two penalties in the second half from Coldicott proved the difference. A foul on Riley Anderton in the 48th minute and Charlie Gruppelaar going down in the penalty box on 55 minutes had Coldicott bag his brace.

Anderton for Mosgiel had a  great game with plenty of skill and dangerous on attack while  Northern’s Jared Solomon impressed on debut.

Green Island dominated its first half against Queenstown creating plenty of opportunities and spurning four one-on-one chances. It was left to rue the missed chances as it lost 3-0.

In the second half, Queenstown’s substitutes allowed to get more numbers into midfield to upset Green Island’s dominance. The first goal from Ross Marriott was from a deep cross from Lewis Walters and a bullet of a header from Marriot had his side ahead.

As Green Island pushed forward looking for an equaliser, gaps appeared and Queenstown took full advantage, introducing Jan Kumar with 20 minutes to go. A neat through ball had Kumar clean through and his shot hit the Island keeper Stuart Catto and bounced kindly into the box. Queenstown started having a dominant spell. A late goal, from a tight angle from Kumar, sealed the win.

Caversham made the long trip down south and came away empty-handed, losing 1-0 to Southland.

Southland just shaded the first half mainly due to the smart performance of their midfield Yuta Kato Xavier Meurier and David Schipper, who controlled the first and second phases. Caversham started the second half  more direct, more vertical and more aggressive and looked to dominate but with Liam McClure and Hayato Kame in good form Southland held out. A free kick on 70 minutes saw Akira Higashiyama flick the ball to settle the game.

A poor pitch at Ellis Park led to the match between Roslyn-Wakari and Dunedin Technical being switched to Logan Park. The usual tight encounter ended in a 1-1 draw.

Roslyn-Wakari’s Shay Thom was taken to hospital with concussion after a jarring encounter and Technical’s Andy Coburn.

Roslyn took the lead on 22 minutes when Nathan Wilkie pounced on a loose ball following a free kick. When Technical’s Alexander Evalampieff was sent off in the 57th minute after his second yellow card. Technical  responded by grabbing an equaliser with 10 minutes to go. Aaron Burgess provided the assist for Alistair Rickerby to lock the game up.
