The weekend's fixtures started on Friday night when Roslyn Wakari travelled to Invercargill to play Southland in a late 8.30pm kick off.

The game was an entertaining 3-3 draw with quality strikes from Roslyn-Wakari's Nathan Wilkie and Tennessee Kinghorn ensuring each team took a point from the match.

Caversham beat University 3-1 at the Caledonian although a strong start by Caversham did not result in any early goals due to a strong performance by the students' defence and its goalkeeper.

Caversham's Caleb Mourze, on debut, scored midway through the opening spell and it remained 1-0 at halftime.

University started the second half the stronger and, when a Caversham defender misread the play in front of him, University made the most of the chance and tied things up.

University continued to exert pressure which forced Caversham's coach Malcolm Fleming to make changes.

He introduced Sam Collier and Caversham slowly gained more control.

Ryan Fleming then scored two well constructed goals in the 60th and 70th minutes and that led to Caversham winning 3-1.

At Forrester Park, Dunedin Technical beat Northern 4-1.

Youngster George McCall grabbed a 14th-minute lead for Technical, turning on the edge of the penalty box and sliding the ball past Northern goalkeeper Sean Van Dyke.

A few minutes before halftime, Technical scored an own goal to level the scores after a strong Northern attack down the right hand flank .

McCall again responded shortly afterwards to make it 2-1 at half-time. Northern scored an own own goal in the 61st minute and a late penalty to Cam Higgins enabled Dunedin Technical to take all three points.

In the match between the neighbours at Memorial Park in the Battle of the Saddle for the Jimmy McDougall trophy, Mosgiel won out 3-1 over Green Island.

An early goal by Green Island was cancelled out by Conor Neil's equaliser for Mosgiel and it remained a tight game.

Reagan Coldicott went off injured for Mosgiel, which went ahead after the Green Island keeper turned a Morgan Day corner into his own net.

Mosgiel youngster Charlie Gruppelaar went on a searing run, dribbling down the right-hand flank in the second half, before cutting in past the fullback and drilling home a left-foot screamer to seal victory for the home side.

Green Island's second consecutive loss meant it lost further ground to Caversham.

The result suited Queenstown, which stays three points further behind but has played a game fewer.
