Roslyn wins 1-0

In the race for third spot in the women’s southern premiership, Roslyn-Wakari beat Green Island 1-0 on Saturday.

Despite both sides creating an array of chances, the score remained locked at 0-0 at halftime with Roslyn looking the dominant side.

Juliette Lucas scored the only goal of the game in the second half with a clinical finish from outside the box.

Roslyn could have added to its lead, going close again several times in the latter stages of the game.

Dunedin Technical fielded a small squad for Friday night’s game against Mosgiel, no-one available on the bench, and Craig Johnston’s champion side was reduced to 10 players after about 20 minutes of play.

Tech still managed to open the scoring, Shontelle Smith getting the first goal after 23 minutes.

Nieve Collin extended the lead with 10 minutes of the first half remaining.

Tech was reduced to nine for the second half as Collin had to head off, but despite the player deficit, Tech maintained control and accuracy throughout.

Mosgiel battled hard and was relentlessly defending before Tehya Sweeney scored her first goal of the season with 66 minutes gone.

Margarida Dias scored a final goal after 78 minutes to seal a 4-0 win for Tech.

Uni Seconds continued their strong end-of-season form with their second win on the trot.

Arnon Tapp’s side overcame Queenstown with a 2-1 victory at the Queenstown Events Centre. The result helped the students leapfrog Mosgiel to sit in sixth place, while Queenstown misses out on third place.
