Southern beaten by Auckland

Southern United has been beaten 3-1 by Auckland City in its national football league match at Kiwitea Park today.

Playing its second game in four days, an under-strength Southern found itself trailing 2-0 at halftime after goals by Cameron Howieson and Clayton Lewis. A third from Emiliano Tade extended the deficit after the break, before Ben O'Farrell pegged one back for Southern in the 86th minute.

The loss sees Southern remain at the bottom of the table, while Auckland go three points clear at the top.
