Joel Stevens and his team are heading up.

The Dunedin striker has helped his IFK Varnamo side secure promotion to Sweden football’s second tier.

That followed a 1-1 draw with Lindome at the weekend, taking the side to 60 points.

In the process, it secured the league title, moving four points ahead of second-placed Landskrona with one match to play.

Stevens (25) finished the season with four goals from 25 appearances, including 19 starts.

He linked with the team in January, having spent the first half of the New Zealand national premiership with Southern United.

The Swedish league was halted after the Covid-19 breakout, although the country took a ‘‘herd immunity’’ approach, leaving it more open than many others.

The league began again in June and will conclude this weekend.
