University makes it two wins from two

University grabbed its second win in a row as a strong wind dominated southern premiership games on Saturday.

University took on Green Island and came away with a 3-1 victory at Tahuna Park.

Some early robust challenges had Oban Hawkins leave the field injured after only 10 minutes for University.

His replacement Tom Durkin opened the scoring with a quality finish on 26 minutes.

With University playing with the wind in the second stanza, a long ball from Island was intercepted by Tim O'Farrell, and he unleashed an unstoppable shot from 30m.

It was 3-0 after 65 minutes when Dom Scahill scored from the spot after Ben Stanley's mazy run was ended by a foul.

Green Island rallied and Cody Robinson scored a cracking bullet header from a corner. In the resultant melee, Green Island's Ryan Fleming was shown a yellow card, and University goalkeeper Stu Catto his second.

Ben O'Farrell took over the gloves and had a few nervy moments when Island forced the ball over the line for what seemed like a late second, but it was ruled out by the assistant referee's flag.

The crosswind played havoc in the match at Tahuna Park between Mosgiel and Southland.

Mosgiel dominated early, with Southland keeper Mark Breed being kept busy.

Strong defensive games by Southland's Sean Connolly and Harry Milligan helped.

A corner early in the second half proved to be the match-winner for Mosgiel.

The cross from Anderson was perfect and found Alex Cox in the box, and he headed home to give Mosgiel the 1-0 win.

The Central Otago derby in Queenstown resulted in a 4-1 win to Queenstown to send it to the top of the table.

Queenstown found its rhythm and took the lead after 23 minutes. Mike Stevenson crossed a great ball to the back post which eventually found Luke Caister to tap in.

The second goal, four minutes later, had Jan Kumar drift between three players in a wide area and slam a vicious low shot under Britton Dowling.

Kumar got his second a few minutes later with a nice chest trap and finish, and before the break Carlos Hermann made it 4-0.

To Wanaka's credit, it came back well, and Alex Plimmer reduced the deficit with a well worked piece of play that led to a back post tap-in on 67 minutes.

The wind at Forrester Park also had a strong bearing on the match as Roslyn-Wakari ran out 6-1 winners over Northern.

The first half was a very even contest and Roslyn scored late in the half to lead 2-1 at the break.

Northern equalised when Jonny Woodall ran down the left and delivered a low cross that Tom Simpson put home. Roslyn responded right on half time, courtesy of Matt Cordelle getting on the end of a cross.

Midway through the second half, Roslyn scored a flurry of goals as Luke Clissold scored back-to-back headers, Victor Pekkari fired home from close range, and there was a rocket from Reid Hulleman.

At a wind-swept Tonga Park, Caversham beat Technical 3-1.

Caversham debutant Campbell Thomson tapped in a simple finish to open the scoring after half an hour.

Thomson made it 2-0 after the break following a Technical defensive error.

A sweeping counter attack with Connor Neil and Ben Kiore combining saw Andrew Ridden finish from outside the box for the third goal.

Tech rallied when Thomas Petersen scored from a well delivered David Hayman free kick.
