Japan tour players for Open

At least 25 players from the Japan Golf Tour (JGTO) will compete in the 2017 New Zealand Open as a result of the partnership agreement being renewed.

''In view of the fact that the first five finishers in the 2016 event all ply their trade on the Japan Golf Tour, this partnership agreement again represents an excellent investment that the tournament continues to make in terms of securing quality professional players from this tour,''tournament chairman John Hart said.

The tournament, played at Queenstown's The Hills and Millbrook Resort from March 9-12 next year, will feature 144 professionals.

There is also a pro-am section, which began in 2014, in which 144 amateurs pair with a professional in a two-man best-ball event.

The event has a new naming sponsor for the next three years in ISPS Handa. The International Sports Promotion Society aims to contribute to social welfare and international co-operation through the promotion of sport.

It has a history of supporting golf events around the world.
