Logan prevails in playoff

Inia Logan (Cromwell) won the North Otago matchplay championships in Oamaru yesterday.

Jonny Mackay (Timaru) held a 1-up lead on the last hole of the final against Logan, but hit his tee shot out of bounds, forcing a sudden-death playoff.

The pair halved the 10th hole in the first hole of sudden death with two pars.

Mackay then found trouble again on the 18th tee with his tee shot tight behind a tree. Mackay could not salvage par, and Logan converted to win the title.

Earlier, Mackay was 4-under the card and defeated Ben Patston (Otago) on the 16th green in their semifinal with a 4-2 victory.

Logan played young junior Hayden Robertson (Taieri Lakes) in his semifinal and had a strong finish on his back nine to win 3-2.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
