The New Zealand Open has welcomed some rising stars but has also lost some big names.

American Paul Peterson will line up for next week's event along with Cameron Davis, of Australia.

Peterson has jumped nearly 300 places this year following wins on the European and Asian Tours and is now ranked at No122 in the world.

With the Open now being linked with the Asian Tour, Peterson inquired about a chance of playing the tournament which is set to start next Thursday.

Davis was a quality amateur and was ranked at 1880 after turning professional 18 months ago. But a surprise win at the Australian Open has catapulted him up the rankings and he is now No180 on the world list.

Peterson has not followed the usual well-trodden path for an American College golfing graduate. After struggling on the Canadian Tour, he made the decision to try his fortunes in Asia and achieved five top-four finishes in 2014 and six top-10s the following year.

Peterson's change of fortune continued last year with a share of seventh at the Johannesburg Open and a top-20 at the Scottish Open before a successful return to Asia. He finished in a share of second at the Indian and Hong Kong Opens and was eighth at the Johannesburg Open leading to his recent victory in the Myanmar Open in February.

His world ranking was around 400 before to his first win in Europe but the left-hander has continued to race up the rankings.

Davis was the leading individual at the Eisenhower Trophy in Mexico in 2016, helping Australian to a crushing overall win.

His first year on the pro scene was in Canada in 2017 but his results were largely disappointing, until he returned home to score a remarkable victory in the Australian Open in November, winning by one shot after a final round of 64.

Another promising Australian lining up is Lucan Herbert, now No178 in the world, who was third in this month's World Super Six in Perth.

The new entrants help counter the loss of Japan Tour players KT Kim, Chan Kim and Steven Han, who have all withdrawn from the event.

Chan Kim and Han have gained invitations to the rich WGC event in Mexico City while KT Kim has withdrawn for family reasons.
