Outbreak literally a game changer

Playing golf will be a tad different thanks to the Covid-19 outbreak.

NZ Golf issued recommendations this week for the game and has also cancelled events.

NZ Golf said as golf was largely an outdoor activity and there was plenty of space to roam, the daily playing of the sport should not be affected, although this could change.

Although there were no current restrictions on how clubs operated their facilities, NZ Golf had made suggestions over how players and clubs should operate.

Clubs should implement a minimum 10 minute interval between tee times, ask players to not remove the pin when putting, remove the pins from practice putting greens, remove bunker rakes from the course, close drinking fountains, remove shared sun screen stations, close ball washers, remove all shared food items/menus, clean all surfaces and where possible limit person-to-person contact.

This information is being updated each day as new advice and guidance from the government and others is released.

All NZ Golf events have been cancelled or postponed until May 2020.

Attendance at international events has been canned, while the office of NZ Golf will be closed next week as part of a trial to get all staff working from home.

Postponed events include the autumn foursomes, the Muriwai Open, the Akarana Open, the New Zealand women’s masters and the South Island age group championships.

The NZ Golf awards dinner has been canned and NZ Golf’s annual meeting will take place by video conference.
