Persistent rain and strong winds have forced the abandonment of the opening round of the Evian Championship, women's golf's fifth major in France.

The tournament has been reduced to 54 holes starting tonight.

Kiwi world No 8 Lydia Ko was one over after four holes when the players were forced from the course.

Meanwhile Ryan Fox is five shots off the pace after the opening round of the latest European PGA tour event in Rotterdam.

Fox has fired an even par 71 to be tied for 28th, five shots off the pace.
