Black Sticks too good for Argentina

The Black Sticks men beat reigning Olympic champion Argentina 5-3 in Christchurch yesterday.

The home side was buoyed by an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Leon Hayward who gave it the confidence to push forward on the attacking side of the field.

The scores were tied at 1-1 at halftime before the Black Sticks took control.

Coach Darren Smith said it was satisfying to score five goals against a quality opponent.

"We defended well and were able to contain their dangerous strike forwards. Our strike line was energetic and played with genuine pace as they put together a strong performance."

The Black Sticks men and women both play Argentina in Christchurch tomorrow.
