Germany made the most of its opportunities to beat the Black Sticks women 3-1 in Christchurch yesterday.

The Black Sticks actually opened the scoring in the first minute after a cross found an open Amy Robinson who put the ball in the net.

However, Germany responded with goals to Charlotte Stapenhorst after 21 minutes, Pia Maertens after 29 minutes and Hannah Gablac after 40 minutes.

The Black Sticks men were beaten 3-1 by a clinical German side in an entertaining match played at high speed.

In the end, the difference between the two sides was the clinical nature of the German side from penalty corners.

Marco Miltkau scored twice for the visiting side and Niklas Wellen added a third.

Captain Blair Tarrant scored New Zealand's goal.
