Cup, U18 tourney on

Otago Hockey has a big Queen’s Birthday weekend ahead.

The association is hosting the annual Mainland Cup as well as an under-18 tournament.

The Mainland Cup is contested between Otago and Canterbury men’s and women’s teams.

Canterbury has dominated the event.

The Otago women and Canterbury women are drawn to play today at 4pm, and the men’s match is scheduled for 5.30pm.

The teams will play again tomorrow afternoon and again on Monday in a busy schedule.

The three-day under-18 tournament has attracted teams from South Canterbury, Central Otago and Southland as well as teams from Otago and Canterbury.

Otago Hockey Association pathway manager Hymie Gill could not be reached for comment.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
