Ice Fernz deliver dominant 7-1 win over Romania

The Ice Fernz delivered host nation Romania a lesson on the ice with a 7-1 victory at the IIHF Division two B tournament over the weekend.

The Kiwis dominated play throughout the game, outshooting the Romanians 50-23, and never looked troubled.

The New Zealand MVP award went to Hannah Shields for her outstanding performance and tally of points.

"This was our best game yet. The girls played 60 minutes of structured hockey and never let up," Ice Fernz head coach Rachel Park said.

Points scorers were: Shields (3 goals, 2 assists), Jasmine Horner-Pascoe (2 goals, 3 assists), Helen Murray (1 goal, 1 assist), Krystie Woodyear-Smith (1 goal, 1 assist), Abbey Heale (1 assist), Jaime Jones (1 assist), Rebecca Lilly (1 assist). Goaltender Lochlyn Hyde made 32 saves in an excellent performance.

Should Iceland beat Chinese Taipei, and the top three teams are tied on points, the gold medal winner will be decided by the goal differential between the tied teams, which favours Chinese Taipei.

The Ice Fernz were due to play their final game against Team Croatia late last night.
