Queenstown to host game

Queenstown will host one of three games in a tour by North American players next year.

The Ice Hockey Classic will tour Australia and is also coming to New Zealand for the first time.

Two teams representing the United States and Canada and featuring a mix of current NHL players, veterans and up and coming talent will play three exhibition games across the country.

The opening game will be played in Auckland on June 22 and will be followed the next night by a game at Westpac Stadium in Wellington.

This will be the first stadium in the southern hemisphere to hold an outdoor hockey game.

The Queenstown Ice Arena will host the final game of the series on June 28, a Thursday night.
