The Warriors' finals hopes have suffered a major blow with hooker Issac Luke ruled out of Sunday's crucial NRL clash against the Gold Coast Titans and facing up to a month on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Luke suffered a meniscus tear in his knee during the dying stages of last Saturday's golden point win over Penrith and is booked in to have surgery on Monday.

The 29-year-old pulled up well after the game and was hopeful of taking his place in the Cbus Super Stadium match before suffering a further setback at Thursday's team training.

Scans revealed a minor tear and coach Andrew McFadden confirmed surgery and a stint on the sidelines was unavoidable.

It is hoped Luke will only require a short recovery and be fit to return before the Warriors final round 26 home game against Parramatta.

"He's going in for surgery on Monday," said coach Andrew McFadden.

"It was right at the end of the game [against Penrith]. He actually pulled up really well afterwards."

But just in yesterday's field session it locked up on him and it's something we're going to have to get sorted out now.

"Hopefully it's minor enough to be able to get him back before the season's finished."

Rookie utility Nathaniel Roache was named on the Warriors bench but will take Luke's place in the starting side.

Roache has played seven matches this season and is now likely to play a big part in McFadden's plans as the Warriors look to advance upon their eighth position on the NRL ladder and secure a finals berth for the first time since 2011.

Luke's withdrawal comes as a blow for the Warriors who are preparing to encounter former Eels fullback Jarryd Hayne in his return to rugby league and debut outing for the Titans. Former Warriors centre Konrad Hurrell line up against his old side for the first time since being granted a release from his contract in May to join the Neil Henry coached side.

With the Titans one spot above the Warriors on the NRL ladder, the game looms as being vital to both team's finals hopes.
