The Sharks Tank in Invercargill is a dangerous place for visiting NBL teams.
The Southland Sharks made it four straight home wins last night with a commanding 92-71 victory over the Taranaki Mountain Airs.
The Airs have not won at ILT Stadium Southland since 2012 and any thought of the drought ending last night was quickly quashed.
The Sharks raced out to a 27-16 first-quarter lead and, from that point, there was little doubt the Sharks would extend their 2018 record to six wins and two losses.
While it was one-way traffic, the game did provide some concern for the Sharks. Big man Alex Pledger played just two minutes 40 seconds before his night was ended because of an ankle injury.
As has been the case throughout the season, the scoring was shared around the Sharks roster, as five players reached double figures.
Impressive Canadian Conor Morgan led the way with 20 points, while American Orlando Coleman picked up a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Southland’s next outing will be against Manawatu in Invercargill next Saturday night.
