Dixon, 45, is to drive for the IndyCar team from the motorsport stable named for another Kiwi motorsport great.
The six-time IndyCar champion will leave Chip Ganassi Racing after a remarkable 24-year stint and join Arrow McLaren for the 2027 season.
Dixon will be joined by Swedish driver Felix Rosenqvist, the reigning Indy 500 champion, at a powerful team.
“Joining Arrow McLaren in 2027 is an exciting next step in my career,” Dixon said.
“It was a big decision for myself, for my family, and I’m looking forward to contributing to what the team, Zak [Brown] and Tony [Kanaan] are building there.
“As a New Zealander, being part of Bruce McLaren’s legacy will be special; his spirit and grit are still very much rooted in that team, and I’m excited to carry that on.”
Dixon joined Chip Ganassi Racing in 2002 and won at least one race in every IndyCar season from 2005 to 2025, including the 2008 Indianapolis 500. He has 32 poles, 58 wins and 143 podium finishes in his series career.
A statement from team owner Chip Ganassi said Dixon recently informed him of his decision to part ways. Ganassi said the team offered him a multi-year contract to finish his career at CGR.
“We respect that he’s chosen a different path and wish him nothing but continued success,” Ganassi said.
“Scott will always be a special part of this team’s history, and we’re grateful for everything we’ve accomplished together.
“Our focus now is on finishing this season strong with the No 9 PNC team while also preparing for the future at Chip Ganassi Racing.”
Dixon won the IndyCar Series title in 2003, 2008, 2013, 2015, 2018 and 2020.
He currently sits 10th in the drivers’ standings with 211 points, trailing leader Alex Palou (374), of Spain, by 163 points. He has one top-five finish and five top-10 finishes, but no victories in 10 starts.
