Dominant all over court, Phys Ed A canes Titans

Phys Ed A proved why it is in contention for a top spot this year by thumping South Pacific Titans A 73-46 in the Premier A competition on Saturday.

Phys Ed started strongly with its timing bringing the ball down the court, firing from the first whistle.

Titans stayed with Phys Ed for the majority of the first quarter but Phys Ed pulled away near the end and went into the firstquarter break up 19-9.

Phys Ed’s shooting circle worked well with Sarah Boomer at goal shoot and Ella McCall at goal attack.

Boomer drove strongly out of the circle into the pocket to receive second-phase ball from wing attack Emily Henderson at the centre pass.

Henderson found easy space for herself at the top of the circle. Boomer and McCall split the circle well and when one rolled the top of the circle, the other drove strongly along the base line.

The pair had good communication and provided great offloads to one another.

Boomer finished the game shooting 40goals out of 48 attempts.

McCall donned a big workload for a goal attack, finishing the best on court with 33/35 goals.

Titans goal shoot Kelly Laurence produced space for herselfin the circle and was fed nicely by centre Dayna Turnbull.

The Titans’ accuracy in bringing the ball down the court struggled in the second quarter with no valid options driving throughthe middle, and they went into the halftime break down 37-21.

They had their best display during the third quarter, when Dora Nafatalicame on at goal attack and scored 7/10 goals.

However, Phys Ed had laid the groundwork early for its massive win and the Titans could not pull it back.

Phys Ed wing defence Ella Brown had a stellar game, picking up intercepts in the centre third and applying fantastic defensive pressure.

That resulted in the Titans changing their wing attack at three stages throughout the game.

Phys Ed stuck with the same seven players for the entire game, while the Titans were forced to make changes at every quarter.

There was not one area of the court where Phys Ed did not dominate the Titans.

Its shooting circle interchanged together perfectly, while its mid court sliced through any defence pressure that the Titans applied.

Laura Moffat was strong at centre with her ability to take the ball in the air and feed at the same time.

A final intercept from goal defence Laura Overton sealed the deal for Phys Ed, which took home a dominant win.
