A high performance advisory group has been named as Netball New Zealand (NNZ) enters the second phase of its high performance review.
The group has been brought together to help the NNZ board with a goal of enabling the sporting body to fulfil its high performance strategy and vision. The advisory group — which includes two members of the NNZ board, two independent high performance specialists and NNZ’s head of High Performance — will be chaired by NNZ board member Lesley Murdoch along with NNZ chief executive Jennie Wyllie, former Silver Ferns Bernice Mene and Wendy Frew, former national coach and player Yvonne Willering and NNZ’s Head of High Performance, Keir Hansen. Wyllie said they were pleased to name this panel and move into the next phase of the review after what had been a tough year at high performance level.
"There have been a lot of hard questions asked of us this year and we have been determined to find the right answers to ensure we can achieve our High Performance goals and objectives," Wyllie said.
"The advisory group bring a wide range of skills and experience and their role is to provide advice and guidance to ensure that we can successfully identify and address issues relating to netball’s High Performance programme."
The group’s immediate focus will be to help guide the next phase of NNZs High Performance review process and identification of strategic priorities for the next four-year cycle.
The high performance advisory group (HPAG) will also be tasked with advising on high performance player, coach and competition pathways as well as the practices within New Zealand’s high performance umpiring, officiating and rules development with a view to the international game.
The panel will get the opportunity to meet the Silver Ferns’ head coach and key personnel to offer support in the build-up to key campaigns, while providing advice on optimal selection strategy and policy at an elite level.
Wyllie said there were a number of elements the HPAG would cover and one of its most important roles was to act as a sounding board for both herself and key high performance personnel.
"It is a fresh set of eyes and ears with netball specific expertise to ensure we are all working in the right direction and getting the best out of our high performance programme and pathways."
