Phys Ed nails 3-goal win at death

Phys Ed A came from behind to beat University Albion A 50-47 at the end of round three of the premier A grade competition at the Edgar Centre last night.

Phys Ed played catch-up for the majority of the game and secured the win in the final minutes.

It stepped up its defensive pressure early in the second half to peg back a seven-goal deficit and remained two goals down until moments into the final quarter.

University started well and had a three-goal lead in the early minutes of the game, but Phys Ed levelled not long after.

University goal defence Sam Hollows picked up three turnovers to help her team extend its lead at the end of the first quarter.

Goal keep Lucy Garner made it two more after an intercept in Phys Ed’s attacking end moments into the second quarter.

Phys Ed narrowed the gap back to seven, thanks to a rebound by goal defence Kate Gilchrist.

It was tight on defence and capitalised on University errors to get within two goals.

Gilchrist continued to upset University’s attack and nabbed another two turnovers but Phys Ed remained two goals down at halftime.

Phys Ed grew in confidence as the game progressed and was happy to throw long passes into its shooters in the circle.

University goal attack Bridget Thayer nailed repeated long-range attempts while under tight pressure from her opponents.

A turnover by Phys Ed wing attack Chloe Austin midway through the third quarter allowed her team to get within one goal of University, but the two-goal margin was quickly restored.

University held on to the lead and was up by three goals heading into the final quarter.

Phys Ed goal attack Sophie Johns was a stalwart in the shooting circle as her team took the lead for the first time in the game.

Hollows tipped the ball away from Phys Ed players and University secured a turnover to once again level the score.

Both teams were tight on defence as the clock wound down and Phys Ed had a two-goal lead with a minute and a-half to play.

It added one more after the whistle and won by three goals.
