Phys Ed runs away from Uni

Phys Ed has claimed another win in the premier A competition, beating University Albion B 59-36 at the Edgar Centre on Saturday.

Despite losing two players to ankle injuries, Phys Ed pulled away in the second and third quarters to secure the win.

Shooter Sophie Johns went down during the warm-up and goal defence Abi Souchon followed suit in the second quarter.

Phys Ed had an early advantage and led by seven goals at the end of the first quarter.

University goal keep Lucy Win-Hewetson was right on her opponent and got several turnovers, while Phys Ed centre Laura Moffat secured two of her own at the other end of the court.

Win-Hewetson upset again at the start of the second spell to help her team edge closer but the seven-goal deficit was out to 10 goals by mid-quarter.

Phys Ed added three more thanks to its defensive efforts and slick passes into its shooters, who capitalised under the hoop.

It continued to put on the pressure and kept University to just four goals in the second quarter, while it landed 13.

Phys Ed put its foot down in the third spell to extend its lead.

Its shooters, Sarah Boomer and Ella McCall, were confident under the hoop, despite good pressure from University defenders, and helped extend their team's lead to 20 goals.

Phys Ed's quick responses allowed it to capitalise on turnover ball.

University lifted its game in the final quarter, scoring 11 goals to Phys Ed's 12. It was strong until the final whistle as its defenders kept doing their best to upset Phys Ed's feeds into the circle.

Shooters Ashlee Murphy and Danya Price found space nicely in the circle but Phys Ed defenders often collected the rebounds.

Phys Ed held on to the lead to win by 23 goals.

In other games, Southern Magpies beat University Albion A 57-48, College A defeated Southern Tui 55-41 and Phys Ed B edged St Hilda's A 52-48.
