The match between Hillend A and School A in the South Otago club competition started goal-for-goal, with a very quick pace for the first five minutes of the game.
Both teams worked hard on zone defence, resulting in pressure on attacking ends. However School adjusted better to this pressure and went ahead 10-7 at first break.
School A came out strongly in the second quarter with the first three unanswered goals. Both teams were working hard on both attack and defence.
Hillend's Keely Hill and Anna Whiteside worked tirelessly in defence but with some quick plays and a few turnovers from Hillend, School went into the halftime break up 22-12.
School A came out with some fresh legs in the third quarter and some fine shooting from Maddie Deacon and Amber Mowat stretched its lead.
Despite some good patches of play, Hillend turned the ball over too often and School pulled away to a 17-goal lead at the third quarter break.
Hillend worked tirelessly but was not able to match the School team, which showed off skills it is learning while playing in the Dunedin and South Otago competitions. Deacon had a solid game for School and Hill and Whiteside were good for Hillend. School A ran out the winner 44-24.
