Silver Ferns set for busy season in 2018

The Silver Ferns are set for one of their busiest seasons in 2018.

It was confirmed yesterday the side will have two early-season tournaments before the Commonwealth Games and then two more tournaments later in the year.

The Games, to be held on Australia’s Gold Coast from April 4 to April 15, act as the focal point of the schedule.

However, the Silver Ferns will have a good build-up to them, with both the Quad Series and Taini Jamison Trophy.

The Quad Series will be played in January in  England and South Africa with games against both hosts  as well as Australia.

The Silver Ferns will then host Jamaica, Fiji and Malawi in a four-day tournament in which the teams will compete for the Taini Jamison Trophy.

At the Games they find themselves in a pool alongside England, Wales, Malawi, Scotland and Uganda. In September, the Quad Series returns, with the Silver Ferns hosting England and South Africa, before crossing the Tasman to play Australia.

The season will then finish with the four-test Constellation Cup series against Australia in October.

At age-grade levels, the under-19 national tournament will be held on July 9-12 in Tauranga.

The under-17 tournament will be in Palmerston North on July 16-19, while the secondary school nationals will be in Timaru on October 9-12.
