Waitaki Girls' Lightning Strike holds off improved Kurow

Waitaki Girls' Lightning Strike fought off an improved Kurow side 34-27 in senior North Otago club netball on Saturday.

Waitaki's new defensive duo of Holly Beazer and Megan Creedy picked up crucial ball. Both sides were accurate in the circle, and the Lightning Strike's young shooting circle of Losa Fifita amd Milly Matthews found plenty of space.

Kurow's Steph Voice played well against the tall Waitaki Girls' players while in the second half the shooting combination of Rochelle Francis-Hunt and Rebecca McIntyre were on song.

The young Waitaki Girls' Wildfire team, in its first game, moved the ball slickly to lead 12-7 at halftime.

Maheno fought back to the three-quarter break with a 15-14 lead.

In the final quarter the Wildfire shooting pair of Madaleine Mansfield and Brylee Milmine netted some pressure goals to give their team a two-goal winning margin, 21-19.

Mel Smith and Briar Wilson produced a lot of turnover ball.

Valley Gold made the most of a slow start by St Kevin's A to lead 18-12 at halftime. St Kevin's A, two players down, trailed 27-18 at three-quarter time. Valley Gold won the game 41-28.

In the other game Valley Silver defeated Athletic Maroon 26-16.
