Dunedin's Brogan Anderson will fight  Rick Alchin of Australia in the main event at an Xtreme Fighting Championships MMA event at the Edgar Centre  in Dunedin tonight.

There will be five professional fights which will feature some of the top fighters in New Zealand and Australia.

Anderson, whose ring name is The Arm Collector, is up against a wily and experienced campaigner with an equally threatening ring name.

Ice Cold Alchin has a record  of 13 wins and 13 losses during an eight-year career  during which  he has tackled some talented middleweights. He also has a black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu.

Anderson, who has a professional record of three wins, four losses, will head to the United States following the fight to train. His goal is to fight in the UFC eventually.

The fight will be a big test for him.

One of the more entertaining bouts could be the contest between 41-year-old Craig Masina and Jo van Duin (39). Masina has come out of retirement and both men have an uncomplicated but exciting style.

Last month, four Otago fighters travelled to Bahrain to compete at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation amateur world championships.

The pint-sized Hannah Dawson fought her way through to the final where she lost a close fight to Sweden’s Anna Astvik.

Her silver medal was one of two medals the New Zealand team brought home.

Blenheim’s Gase Sanita won gold in the lightweight division and was  named  best overall female for the competition.

Dunedin’s Taylor Garrett and Pat Hamer won their first fights by TKO in round one but local Lapa Halangahu suffered a defeat. Hamer lost to the eventual champion Ben Bennett (United States) in his next fight, and Garrett lost his second fight by decision.
