Beachlands opening for burn-outs

Those who want to emulate all those smoking tyres at Forsyth Barr Stadium will get their chance at Beachlands speedway tomorrow.

The Speedway will be hosting a burn-out competition from noon tomorrow, and will be targeting those keen to spin their wheels but in a controlled environment.

Beachlands Speedway promoter Ricky Boulton said the competition, from noon to 3pm, would be for those who want to test their tyres on their vehicle but could not afford to compete at a high level.

He hoped it would enable drivers to let off a bit of steam on a closed track rather than go out on public roads and burn tyres.

It would be held in the pit in the middle of the track at the speedway at Beachlands. The pit is more than a decade old but has not been used for a burn-out for a few years.

There will be plenty of smoke and noise on the day and some drivers may even put coloured dyes in their tyres but Boulton said it would all be controlled. There was prize money up for grabs and it should be an interesting spectacle.
