New Zealand's top school triathletes will be hosted by Challenge Wanaka next year.

The national school triathlon championships will be held as part of the event on February 16.

The championships offer schools across New Zealand the chance to show off their athletes in both individual and team events.

A course designed for the Otago secondary schools championships - held on the Thursday prior - will be used, while the Challenge Wanaka Half transition and finish area will also be used.

Individual and team races will be in the morning, while a team tag mixed relay will be held in the afternoon.

''We are very excited to host the New Zealand Schools National Triathlon Championships here at Challenge Wanaka in 2020 and look forward to showcasing the triathlon talent of our young athletes from around the country,'' race direction Bill Roxburgh said.

''The competition will be stiff and we are sure all the competitors will be bringing their A-Game to Wanaka. It will be quite the spectacle, so make sure you come down and enjoy the festival.''
