Wanaka triathlete Tony Dodds is not giving up his Commonwealth Games hopes despite not featuring in yesterday’s New Zealand team.

The 30-year-old tweeted yesterday  he was devastated not to be named and would appeal the decision made by the NZOC.

"Devastated not to be in the Commonwealth Games team that was presented today," his tweet read.

"I was not intending to publicly announce this, but as Tri NZ has presented the team, I want to acknowledge that I am appealing to their decision and am continuing my training for Gold Coast 2018!"

Dodds has had injury problems of late but was confident of being right for the Games.

Dodds  attended the 2014 Games in Glasgow, where he finished 10th, as well as the 2016 Rio Olympics, in which he finished 21st.

He was overlooked this time around for veteran Ryan Sissons and 21-year-old Tayler Reid.

In the women’s team, 35-year-old Andrea Hewitt has once again been selected.

She is joined by Rebecca Spence and Nicole van der Kaay, both of whom will make their first appearances at the Games.

They will compete in both the individual events, as well as in the mixed team relay. The Games begin on April 4, with the triathlon races on April 5 and April7.
