It was a good Easter weekend for Dunedin surfers.

They claimed six of the 13 titles on offer at the South Island championships at Aramoana.

Luke Murphy won the open men's title with a dominant showing in the final.

He scored 14.10 to claim victory over Christchurch's Max Marshall, who scored 9.60.

Tane Wallis, of Piha, was third on 8.10, while Dunedin's Jamie Civil rounded out the finalists on 7.10.

Civil did not leave empty-handed though, scoring 11.9 to claim a comfortable win in the men's over-28 division.

Dunedin competitors Jack McLeod and Elliott Brown battled it out for the men's under-20 title, McLeod coming out on top.

He scored 13.7 in the final. Brown was second on 11.0 and Moss Thompson made it three in the final for Dunedin, finishing fourth with 6.9.

Brown made no mistake in the under-17 division, though.

The 16-year-old King's High School pupil showed why he is considered one of the country's most promising talents by delivering a score of 16.0.

That was the highest scoring final of the weekend and comfortably ahead of Oamaru's Maddy Barclay, who was second with 6.17.

Murphy was unable to repeat his heroics in the over-35 division, coming in third with a score of 10.0.

It was still a Dunedin win though, as Lyndon Fairbairn scored 11.2 to claim the title.

The longboard division was one of three men's titles to elude the Dunedin group.

William Wallace finished second with 12.0, edged by Christchurch's Hugh Ritchie on 12.1.

Tash Civil ensured the Dunedin women got in on the action, claiming the over-30 title.

She scored 7.5 to comfortably beat fellow Dunedin surfer Ang Reardon on 4.43.
