Gold for Wakushima

Queenstown snow sport athlete Cool Wakushima won gold in snowboard Big Air at the Aspen stop of the US Revolution tour yesterday.

Wakushima landed a both huge double wildcat and a stylish frontside 720 to secure the win.

Wakushima won the event convincingly, with her score of 179.50 17 points clear of silver medallist Kanami Okuyama, of Japan, and 37.75 points ahead of bronze medallist Courtney Rummel, of the United States.

This is Wakushima’s second medal at the current Aspen Open stop of the US Revolution tour, after she claimed the silver medal in slopestyle on Thursday.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
