Jossi Wells combined with Nico Porteous, Margaux Hackett and Carlos Garcia Knight to dominate the event.
But team Kuzma played its joker card on the Big Air event to double its points.
This pushed it in front with 160 points. Team Wells is on 100 points, while Team Smoothy is third with 60 points.
Nico Porteous, a bronze medallist at the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, was crowned overall men’s freeski big air champion on a bluebird day.
“My day was off the charts. I haven’t had a day like this for so long. It was unbelievable,” Porteous said.
“I ended up coming out and doing tricks I have only done twice before in my life. Beyond stoked to be standing on that top podium.”
Jackson Wells, a 2018 Olympian and the youngest of the Wells brothers, showed consistency across all his tricks and finished in second place.
Wanaka’s Finn Bilous rounded off the men’s freeski podium in third place.
Margaux Hackett blew the women’s field apart to claim first place.
“It was really cool battling it out with Zoi [Sadowski-Synnott],” she said.
Jess Hotter boosted her way into second place with some huge straight airs and solid grabs. Sadowski-Synnott went all out attempting a backside double 1080 but could not find her feet.
Carlos Garcia Knight beat a world class field in the men’s snowboard event, while Tiarn Collins finished second but had the standout trick of the day.
The Winter Games NZ Obsidian is being run in a weather window between August 10-20, and the next predicted event is the freeride on August 15.
