Queenstown freeskier Margaux Hackett has achieved the best result among New Zealand athletes at the Air + Style World Cup in Beijing, finishing in fourth place. Zoi Sadowski-Synnott finished in eighth place in the snowboard finals.

"I’m super happy with my fourth place," Hackett said. It is a career-best result for the 20-year-old.

Landing a switch right misty 900 on jump one and left misty 720 safety on run two, Hackett was sitting in third place coming into the final jump. She could not get her third trick down cleanly and when Silvia Bertagna, of Italy, came through with a tidy switch left 540 mute, Hackett was pushed back into fourth place.

Norwegian Johanne Killi took the win with Giulia Tanno, of Switzerland, in second.

The women’s snowboard finals produced a shake-up of the rankings, with bottom qualifier Miyabi Onitsuka, of Japan, storming through for victory.

After just getting into the finals as the eighth-place qualifier the Japanese rider took control from the very first hit of the competition, where she stomped a perfect backside double 1080 to get the proceedings under way.

Sadowki-Synnott, on solid form during the qualifying rounds and second in her heat, could not hold on to her landings for her three jumps on finals night and finished eighth.
