Halberg registrations open

Those who can row, bike or run are urged to get involved in the Halberg Challenge.

Registrations have opened for the charity event which will be held at the Sargood Centre at Logan Park at the Otago Polytechnic's Otago Institute of Sport and Adventure on September 16.

The fundraising sports race is open to teams of three, with each member either cycling, rowing or running as far as they can for 20 minutes. Teams will be tracked to get a total distance completed across all three disciplines and the team that covers the greatest distance will be named the winner.

Funds raised will go to the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation - the charity set up by Sir Murray Halberg to help enhance the lives of physically disabled New Zealanders by enabling them to participate in sport and recreation.

There will also be some adapted sports sessions on show.

Everybody In, an inclusive sport programme, will be launched at the Halberg Challenge, with Otago Cricket providing table-top cricket, Otago Rugby delivering walking rippa rugby and Football South demonstrating adaptive football. Physically disabled young people aged from 8-21 can join in.

Registrations for the sports race can be made at www.halbergchallenge.co.nz
