This caps off a brilliant 2018 season that also included an Olympic bronze medal.

With consistent fog making visibility tough, the 16-year-old used his knowledge of the conditions to his advantage, and said afterwards the weather had no effect on him.

Porteous became New Zealand's only gold medallist of the junior world championships, held at Cardrona over the past 10 days as part of the Winter Games.

The teen said the Olympic medal was behind him now and the accomplishment of a junior world title was ''right up there'' with anything he had achieved in his young career.
