Hung, Lin clean up titles at Otago Open

Dozens of winners were crowned at the Otago Open at Dunedin's Edgar Centre over the weekend.

More than 108 competitors showed their keen eye and fine touch as as they competed in age categories from under 11 to more than 60-years-old.

The open titles were the trophies the big names came for and those events did not let the Dunedin crowd down as the contenders played out enthralling singles and doubles finals.

Those trophies all went, at least partially, over the Otago border as classy Cantabarians Jenny Hung and Yi-Sien Lin dominated the open ranks of the tournament.

New Zealand No3 Hung justified her top seeding to claim the women's title in straight sets over second seed Avon Liu.

While they were foes on the singles table, the two finalists paired up to down Emily Stewart and Jaiyi Zhou three sets to one in the women's doubles final.

Hung made it a hat-trick of wins when combining with Yi-Sien Lin to defeat Kyra Portis and Ivo Mikulec in the mixed doubles.

The combination was almost unbeatable given that Yi-Sien Lin went into the doubles competition on the back of winning the men's singles.

The third-seeded Lin defeated No1 seed Yuhan Gao in the semifinals and then beat No2 seed Hongyi Li by four sets to one in the final.

Like Hung, Lin made it a hat-trick of open titles when winning the men's doubles title with Ivo Mikulec.

The pair downed Ben Duffy and Yuhan Gao in straight sets.
