Changes have been made to next year's Coast to Coast which will open the event up to those not so skilled in all three disciplines.
Race director Robin Judkins has brought in three new sections to the event.
The mountain run, the last cycle and three-person teams will be features of the event next year.
The mountain run will be over the 33km of Goat Pass and will start as the first two-day entrant finishes the first cycle leg and enters the Aickens transition.
It will finish at Klondyke Corner on the Friday.
The last cycle will start at the riverbank at Gorge bridge as the first kayaker in the two-day event passes under the bridge.
The entrants will run 500m and then cycle 70km on the Old West Coast Rd through Christchurch to finish at Sumner Beach.
Judkins said these new categories gave an opportunity to those who had always wanted to do a section of the race, but did not have the all-round ability to compete.
Three-person teams would have one competitor carry out the mountain run, one the kayak and the cyclist doing the three cycling sections and the four short runs.
The mountain run and the last cycle will both be open to 200 competitors in each event.
Competitors can do both new sections if they wish. The team sections will be increased by 100 three-person teams.
Two-person teams already entered could also change to having an extra person.
Next year's Coast to Coast is on February 8-9.
