Hot on the heels of three Kiwis standing on the podium at ironman Cairns, more New Zealanders featured highly at the Hawaii half ironman today.
The event, a forerunner to October's world ironman championship in Kona, saw Christchurch's Julia Grant manage a solid second place in the women's race and three Kiwi men finish in the top 10.
Leading the way for the Kiwis was Grant, who completed the 70.3 mile distance behind only Linsey Corbin of the United States. The 27-year-old will take great encouragement from arguably her strongest performance against international opposition as she prepares for an attack on the half ironman world championships in September this year.
In the men's field, seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong continued to astound the triathlon world in his preparation for a tilt at Kona with an impressive win, knocking six minutes of the race record.
Guy Crawford was the best of the New Zealanders in fifth, and James and Mark Bowstead came home seventh and ninth, respectively.
The event capped a successful weekend for New Zealand multisport, with Cameron Brown, Belinda Harper and Candice Hammond all finishing on the podium at the Cairns ironman.
