More than 70 nominations were included in the six categories for the awards, across 27 different sports.
Wanaka stand-up paddle boarder Annabelle Anderson was one of eight nominated for the sportswoman of the year award. The world champion in the distance event, she spends much of the year competing overseas.
Athletes Holly Robinson and Jess Hamill were both nominated for the disabled athlete of the year award.
Both won medals at the para-athletics world championships in London, Robinson a silver in the javelin F46 and Hamill a bronze in the shot put F34.
Wanaka freeskier Nico Porteous (15) was nominated for the emerging talent award.
He became the youngest New Zealander to be named for the Winter Olympics.
Former Highlanders coach Glenn Moore was nominated for coach of the year, after claiming a world title with the Black Ferns.
The awards will be held on February 8. The winners of sportsman, sportswoman, disabled sportsperson and team of the year are all eligible for the supreme award.
